<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Stephen March was born in York, PA.  He received his B.A. from Penn State and his M.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design.  Currently the upper school art instructor at York Country Day School, he has also taught at Elmira College, York College of PA and has been an artist-in-residence at the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira New York.  He has had solo exhibitions and won awards throughout the Eastern United States and is currently associated with the Amos Enos Gallery in New York.</p>

<p><span>York Art Association partnered with the Greater York Dance in a cooperative effort that culminated with an exhibit May 2011 at the GYD School.  In just three weeks, YAA artists completed over 30 works in a variety of mediums.  A number were sold.  YAA Director of Outreach, Suzanne Collins was recognized for her coordination of the event, from conceptualization through the successful showing.</span></p>

<p>January 16th was the opening Sunday for this small (48 entries) but well attended exhibition, which will continue through January 30th.</p>
<p>The judge was <strong>Fred Rodger</strong>, who holds both Bachelor&#8217;s and Master&#8217;s Degrees in Art from Millersville University, and taught art and science for 33 years before leaving to pursue a career as an artist.  Rodger has participated in group and solo exhibitions throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and New York.  Fred states that art-making has become an obsession and a turning point in his life.<span id="more-418"></span></p>

<p><strong>1st Place Student (Sue Fehringer)</strong> &#8211; <em>Original thought, texture, color contrast: teetering on edge &#8211; nothing is certain today.</em></p>
<p><strong>2nd Place Student (Bob Hartson)</strong> &#8211; <em>Craggy face is very well executed, depicting weather of age </em></p>
<p><strong>3rd Place Student (Michael Brothers) </strong>-<em> The detail of the peeling paint was well done.  The light through the transom draws your eye. </em></p>

<p>YAA MISSION STATEMENT:  Our mission is to encourage and develop interest in the visual arts.  We will pursue adequate funding in order to provide opportunities for education through classroom instuction, workshops, lectures, exhibits and publications.  We will support and assist in marketing members&#8217; work through exhibits and interaction withing the community.</p>

<p><strong>Heather Neill&#8217;s</strong> luminous, realistic paintings tell a story.  Her York County studio is filled with objects that have a history.  A<span id="more-381"></span> delicate tea cup, a weathered pair of boots, or a worn uniform, they all find their way into her work.  Heather received a B.A. in Studio Art from Connecticut College, New London, Connecticut.  She has won numerous awards and has been featured in International Art Magazine, American Art Collector and The Artist Magazine.  Heather is represented by the Granary Gallery on Martha&#8217;s Vineyard, MA.</p>
<p><strong>Judeth Pekala Hawkins</strong> says of her recent work, &#8220;<em>A fascination of pattern and negative space has always been at the heart of my work.  Lately I cover or delete the negative portion of my paintings and allow myself to obsess completely on color, repetition and the shapes that occur between objects.&#8221;</em> She has received many awards for her work and has had numerous one woman exhibitions throughout the region.  Judeth is also a noted Pennsylvania Artist in Residence through the Pennsylvania Arts in Education program.</p>
<p><strong>Frances Donnelly Wolf</strong> received a B.A. from the School of Oriental and African Studies, university of London, London England, a B.A. in Studio Art and Art History from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and an M.A. in Art History from Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, PA.  Frances&#8217; work is inspired by words.  <em>&#8220;I collect phrases and segments of sentences from both poetry and prose as points of reference for my paintings.  I collect what appeals to me upon a first read.  I collect what makes me catch my breath.&#8221;</em> Francis is a juried artist member of the Pennsylvania Art Experience &#8211; Susquehanna Artist Trail and has exhibited in numerous one woman and group exhibitions throughout the region.</p>
<p><strong>Phyllis Disher Fredericks</strong> is know for her articulate, surreal still life paintings, however her recent work focuses on nature.  <em>&#8220;There is a sense of peace and spirituality I find in my landscape subjects.  I am drawn to quiet places</em>.&#8221;  Phyllis received her degree in painting and sculpture from The Newark School of Fine Arts, Newark, NJ.  She has also studied classical painting at the Barnstone Studios in Copley, PA.  Her work has been featured in numerous one woman and group exhibitions and she has won numerous awards including the Rottler Award for Excellence in the Arts.  She is also a recognized Pennsylvania Artist in Residence through the Pennsylvania Arts in Education program.<strong><strong><em><strong><em><strong><em></em></strong></em></strong></em></strong></strong></p>
