York Art Association is searching for artists that can design and paint an entire piano for a public art installation event. The pianos will be installed on June 21, 2023, in conjunction with Make Music Day, a celebration led by the Cultural Alliance of York County. The Pianos will be present in Downtown York until September 30, 2023. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, the project will feature five custom-designed pianos displayed throughout the city at various locations, accessible to the public 24/7. This initiative was developed to showcase York counties creative community, provide access to cultural assets, and to further build a sense of community among the public while raising awareness for visual arts and music education initiatives.
Guidelines:
Artists must submit a proposed design of a piano utilizing one of our piano sponsor's logos and branding guidelines. All logos and guidelines will be placed in a Google Drive, accessible from May 12, 2023, until May 31, 2023. The selected artists will receive $500 for their work. Resource York has also partnered with YAA to provide a discount on exterior paint. YAA will also cover expenses for materials up to $200.
Selected artists will also be featured on YAA's website and newsletters invited to private events/fundraisers for the piano project, and have their information featured on the pianos through a QR code. Please include all equipment needs in your proposal. Selected artists can paint the pianos while they are stored at the former Rudy Art Glass building located at 15 E Philadelphia St, York, PA 17401 between June 5 - 15th.
Deadline for submissions is 5 PM on June 2, 2023. Please submit your design to Roth Preap at executive-director@yorkartassociation.org. Please include your full name, address and contact information in your email alongside the draft design proposal. Artists will be selected by a group of panelists from partner organizations and the Executive Director of YAA.
