Celebrating PEACE with the York Art Association!

Updated: Jul 16

In celebration of the International Day of Peace, York Art Association is hosting a unique multi-arts event this summer unlike anything YAA has done before.

Titled, Reflections Of Peace, this special event has been in the works for over a year and includes a gallery exhibit, a yoga session, an art installation featuring banners made by our local youth, a community interactive art project in the Sally Little Danyo Gallery and other projects too!

We welcome you to join millions worldwide who will artistically express their feelings for the International Day of Peace! To quote Ossie Davis, “Any form of art is a form of power; it has impact, it can affect change - it can not only move us, it makes us move.”

Everyone’s creative expression will be valued equally and not judged!

So, who or what motivates your very personal Reflections Of Peace?

  • a spiritual or civic leader, musician, poet, or politician?

  • the experience of being one with nature?

  • a vivid dream or even your relationship with a beloved pet?

  • the memory of a departed loved one who provided a very personal sense of peace in your life?

  • abstracts featuring soft lines, colors and gentle shapes are appropriate as are works displaying symbols of serenity.  Delve deep into your inner spirit and create in your medium of choice!

We are increasing the number of pieces per artist to two with a maximum of 50 artworks and is open to members and non-members. Please write a short statement about how your piece relates to the topic of peace.

To register and for more info:

Registration closes July 22 so there is still time to create a special work or go through your inventory and choose a work that supports this message of peace! Participate in an event that will have everlasting impact.

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR: Stephanie Cucina

Stephanie has been a Yoga student for over 10 years and a teacher for 8. When she teaches she guides from a place of compassion, self-acceptance and connection. During her classes, she speaks to focus on breath and noticing sensations in the body in order to help quiet the “monkey mind” which deepens the connection to the most authentic SELF or YOU. Stephanie is also a certified Sound Healing Practitioner and utilizes Sound Healing in all of her yoga classes during Shavasana (final resting pose) by intuitively playing an instrument or using her voice. Her mission is to use her own light and life experience to help guide others to healing in whatever way they need, whether it’s mind, body or heart or all of the aforementioned. She hopes to connect you to YOU!

CHILDREN'S ART INSTALLATION & COMMUNITY ART PROJECT

We want to thank DreamWrights Center for Community Arts and their amazing students for contributing to an art installation for the Reflections of Peace exhibition from August 4th till September 8th.

These ribbons will adorn our Sally Little Danyo Gallery and provide the option for people to participate in a community art activity design by Brett Greiman Design.

The attendees who chose to be involved in the community art activity would be invited to trim pieces from the children’s banners at the bottom that is free of the quote, then add their own note about peace to that part of the banner they’ve trimmed off to a large canvas in the shape of a lotus flower.

The purpose of this activity is to instill in young people the importance of research, planning, and creativity, while demonstrating the relevance and inspirational value of their artistic efforts. Through collaborative and historical inspiration, participants create artwork that highlights the event's theme, echoing the practices of creative thinkers throughout history.
