For the past decade, Carol Little has been an indispensable asset to York Art Association, lending her time and enthusiasm to a variety of roles. As the facilitator of the Gallery Group, she helps foster a community of artists who organize, hang, and sell their artwork around York County. You may also find her gallery sitting, assisting with exhibition intake, and engaging with fellow artists—one of her favorite aspects of being involved with YAA.
“I thoroughly enjoy helping with the exhibit intakes,” she says, “because I get a preview of the work coming in and get to meet and talk with the artists who created them.”

Carol’s involvement with YAA began when she began participating in classes and workshops. She found great value in the programs and the positive interaction with staff and instructors, and volunteer service followed naturally. Over the years, her experience with the organization has given her the confidence to expand her connections to art patrons and exhibition opportunities in both York and Vermont, where she spends her summers. The friendships she has built have been particularly meaningful, expanding beyond the walls of YAA and offering her support through life’s challenges, including the loss of her husband last year.
One of Carol’s fondest memories at YAA involves her uncanny resemblance to fellow artist Pat Teller. They used to have matching hairstyles and glasses, and once even showed up for a class in nearly identical outfits. Embracing the frequent confusion of being mistaken for sisters, the duo once performed the “Sisters” act from White Christmas at a Gallery Group party—a moment that perfectly reflects the warmth and camaraderie Carol has found at YAA.
Looking ahead, Carol is excited about YAA’s move to the Avenues, into the former Little Green Church. She hopes more people in the community will discover what a gem YAA is, from its professional-level instruction at reasonable prices to its high-quality exhibits.
For Carol, volunteering isn’t just about giving back—it’s about the joy of being surrounded by creativity, meeting fellow artists, and enhancing her artistic skills.
“I have learned that creativity takes many forms,” Carol says, “and the friendships I have formed with other artists at YAA have greatly enriched my life.”
