Summer at YAA has historically been about the kids! In the month of July, we provide art camps for kids ranging in ages 5 and up. This year, we partnered with an artists and muralist, Annelise Vuono and Ophelia Chambliss to offer a special opportunity to our teen artists.
The mural, IMAGINE, was designed and completed by YAA art students during a summer art camp held this past July. We couldn't have done it without the help of LoveBug Illustrations by Annelise to plan, lead the camp and oversee the art installation.
'The design was conceptualized and executed by the kids. The students were each assigned a letter and color, other than that they were free to create what they wanted. We started with thumbnail sketches to get the rough ideas out, continued with a final drawing, then a color composition they could scale up, before we even got to the canvas. We delved deep into color theory with this project as they were mainly working in monochromatic pallets. Students were also allowed to pull analogous colors into their designs. Be sure to check out all their hard work in person.'

The mural is installed on Ophelia's Making Agency further beautifying our Downtown York, PA community. What a great project featuring the power of the visual arts and what it can do to educate, beautify, and connect us all.
